Statement from the family of Brother Eric McComas, Engine Company 21 Platoon 1

Eric suffered a severe medical emergency on Sunday, March 3rd. All medical interventions have not been able to address his health; therefore, the family has made the brave decision to donate his organs since his life's work was dedicated to helping others.

----------

Per the family's request, members wishing to participate in his Last Alarm Ceremony are welcome to attend in full dress uniform. The Last Alarm Ceremony will be the only event held in honor of Eric’s life that will be open to both the public, DC Fire & EMS personnel, and members of Local 36 as the family has elected to have a private Celebration of Life at a later date.

The ceremony will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024, at the West Virginia University Berkeley Medical Center located at 2500 Hospital Drive, Martinsburg, WV 25401. It is anticipated to be held during the morning hours. However, a specific time for tomorrow’s Last Alarm Ceremony will be released later today as the family is still coordinating the logistics of Eric’s organ donation with the hospital and organ transplant team.

-----------

Local 36 will send a follow-up email with any updates as they are released. Members are encouraged to support each other through this time of mourning. If any member is in need of support, please do not hesitate to contact the Peer Support Team at 1 202-455-8299
